Catalonia should resist and vote

The Spanish executive and judicial system show through their undemocratic judiciary police and perhaps soon military actions that they are determined to prevent by all means available the referendum of 1st October that a majority of Catalans desires

The Partit de la Nacion Occitana vigorously denounces this coup that leaves neighbouring France as well as the EU scandalously silent under the pretext that it is a Spanish domestic issue.

Now what is at stake is the right of the Catalan people to democratic and peaceful self-determination.

This is an internationally recognized right.

The Partit de la Nacion Occitana, which supports the referendum, calls on Catalans to resist peacefully and vote at all cost on 1st October.

It calls on Occitans to take part in all the demonstrations organised in Occitania in front of Spanish consulates or other places officially associated with Spain.

Catalonia has a right to self-determination and, if it chooses to separate from Spain, to create a Catalan republic, that would be a EU and UN member.

The Partit de la Nacion Occitana hopes Occitania will one day seize that right.

Meanwhile, the national rights of the Occitans in the Valle de Aran will be better protected by a Catalan republic rather than by the Spanish monarchy.
