Catalonia : referendum of Sunday 1st October 2017

Yes to the republic of Catalonia and Aran

Further to the referendum of Sunday 1st October 2017 organized by the government of the Generalitat de Catalunya, against the will of the central government in Madrid, the victory of the ayes to independence and to the creation of a Catalan republic is also the victory of the Vale of Aran and symbolically of all Occitania.

In spite of all the provocative actions of the Spanish colonial police, the Catalan people exercised its right to vote in a dignified and peaceful manner without giving in to blackmail and violence.

The Catalan voter turnout could have been higher if the Spanish government had not put as many spokes as possible in the wheels to prevent the referendum from taking place.

Nevertheless, the unquestionable victory of the ayes to independence is also the victory of democracy and of the right of nations to self-determination.

For the Partit de la Nacion Occitana, after the violence exerted by the Spanish police against ordinary citizens who just wanted to vote, negotiations between Madrid and Barcelona, although they are still possible, will be difficult.

For the Partit de la Nacion Occitana, Catalan Parliament should proclaim as soon as possible the independence of the Republic of Catalonia and turn the page for good on the Spanish presence in Catalonia since 1714.

The Partit de la Nacion Occitana normally expects the EU to act as honest broker between Spain and Catalonia.

It expects the latter, if it becomes independent from Spain, to become a de facto EU member.
