The Occitan Nation Party welcomes the birth of a new North Catalan political movement
" (yes to the Catalan country)Oui au Pays Catalan"
In line with its objective : the independence of all the nations and the peoples of the world, the Partit de la Nacion Occitana (Occitan Nation Party) welcomes the birth on Saturday 15th October 2016 in Perpignan of the political movement : "Oui au Pays Catalan" (yes to the Catalan country).
It is the result of the need felt by North Catalans to defend their own national identity and to take their matters into their own hands. During the founding Congress, numerous speakers underlined that North Catalan identity and economic specificities were ignored by political bodies now run by imperialistic Parisian parties. Hence the fact that it is in the interest of the Catalan people of this region to manage their territory by themselves.
For the time being, the objective of the "Oui au Pays Catalan" movement is the creation of a specific Catalan region with the status of « collectivité territoriale unique » (single regional authority) which would replace the current department of « Pyrénées-Orientales » and would hold simultaneously the competences now fulfilled by the region. This is already the case for Corsica and the other overseas nations under French domination.
On the other hand, the Occitan-speaking Fenouillèdes, now in the department of Pyrénées orientales, should remain within the Occitanie-pyrénées-méditerranée region.
In its ethnic perspective, the Partit de la Nacion Occitana has always been in favour of North Catalonia having its own regional authority.
Although its only a political movement now, the Occitan Nation Party thinks that "Oui au Pays Catalan" follows history’s current trends and is logically part of a stage in the global process of the national liberation of Catalonia. The new Catalan political movement whose vocation is to gain a majority in its territory, can count on the brotherly support of our part
