Sivens : Volèm viure, decidir e trabalhar al país (we want to live, decide and work in our homeland)
On Friday March 6th, the county council in Tarn is to make a decision on the future of the Sivens water storage project. Once more, this is an opportunity for the Albi branch of the Occitan Nation to denounce the intolerable behaviour of the so-called « zadistes » (from ZAD ie. area to be defended in French) who occupy the building site illegally. They turned the area into a lawless no man’s land. They dislodged someone living in Test from her own farm and went so far as to steal part of her furniture.
They committed so many varied violent acts that it would be tedious to list them all again.
They check the identity of everyone coming close to the building site and prohibit access to anyone they choose. They prevent farmers from working their own land. The court has returned its verdict and declared illegal the occupation of the building site.
The Albi branch of the Occitan Nation Party therefore demands the enforcement of the court decision. The illegal occupiers should be expelled.
Besides, the Albi branch of the Occitan Nation Party notes that a water storage area is needed to irrigate the valley and compensate for the low-water level of the Tescon during the Summer .
The Occitan Nation Party also notes that the decision to build a water storage area was made by the democratically elected county council. The centralist State by taking control of the case has demonstrated once more its contempt for democracy and county councillors. We are very far from the so-called participatory democracy advocated by the very minister who confiscated the case.
On account of the situation and the need to develop the economy of our Occitan region, the Albi branch of the Occitan Nation Party urges the county councillors, convened on Friday March 6th in Albi, to decide to carry on building the Sivens water storage area (as originally planned).
